There's Shame When Pride Rules

Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV):

“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”

Pride is one of the most dangerous sins because it can enter our hearts quietly while convincing us that we are spiritually strong. Proverbs reminds us that pride ultimately leads to shame, while humility produces wisdom. Pride says, “I know better,” “I deserve recognition,” or “I am more spiritual than others.” Humility says, “I need God,” “I can be corrected,” and “Everything I have comes from Him.” The danger of pride in the church today is that it can disguise itself behind ministry titles, biblical knowledge, positions of leadership, accomplishments, or even outward displays of spirituality. A person can be active in church and yet have a heart that seeks recognition rather than glorifying Christ. When pride takes root, believers become more concerned with being seen than with serving, being right than being righteous, and receiving praise than giving God praise. When Christ is at the center, pride loses its power.

Prayer:

Father, search my heart and reveal every area where pride has taken root. Forgive me when I seek recognition, praise, or position instead of seeking Your glory. Teach me to walk humbly before You, to receive correction with grace, and to serve others with a Christlike heart. Protect Your church from the destructive influence of pride, and raise up humble servants who desire to exalt Jesus above themselves. In Jesus' name, Amen.
