Psalm 143:10
Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Your Spirit is good.
Lead me in the land of uprightness.
Going through life is hard enough. But going through it alone, under your own will and power can be even more difficult at times. There may be times when you are striving along in life and nothing seems to work out. And even if it does, it may not last very long, before you find yourself all alone again fighting for every breath and step you take.
If you find yourself in a situation where you think you you can handle it all on your own, be prepared for a huge let down. Nothing happens in life by chance. The same God who sits on His throne in heaven is the same God who controls everything here on earth. To include everything - believe it or not - in your life.
Some people may disagree with this theology. Some may argue that life is nothing but chance. I choose to disagree. Throughout the Scriptures, God has always had, and always has, His hand on every situation. Nothing escapes His view or is out of His sovereign control.
Will He favor His children over those who reject Him? Sure, but I believe He does it if only to show His great love and demonstrate His grace to the unbeliever. For the believer, God's favor is shown to those who wish to do His will.
What is His will? The Apostle Paul probably puts it in the best terms:
Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 "For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God"
If you still struggle with trying to know how to do God's will, do as the psalmist writes, and ask God in prayer:
Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God
It will require complete submission, devotion, and worship to the Lord God Almighty. It also takes a knowledge of God through His precious word contained in the Holy Scriptures.
But moreover, it starts with a believing heart of faith in Jesus Christ. The One who did the will of His Father by giving Himself as a ransom and payment for the forgiveness of our sins, and the hope of everlasting life by His resurrection.
This awesome free gift of grace secures our eternal destiny. But only to those who truly repent and believe and want to do His will. It can be yours too for the asking.
