The Honor of Receiving Correction

Proverbs 13:18 (NKJV) says, “Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.”

God’s correction is not meant to destroy us; it is meant to develop us, protect us, and draw us closer to Him. There is a great difference between the person who humbly receives correction and the one who stubbornly rejects it. When we refuse correction, pride can lead us toward foolish decisions, spiritual failure, and ultimately shame. But when we listen to God’s Word, accept godly counsel, and allow the Holy Spirit to correct our attitudes and actions, God can use that humility to bring honor into our lives. Correction may be uncomfortable, but it can become a doorway to spiritual growth and maturity. The wise believer does not ask, “How can I avoid correction?” but rather, “Lord, what are You trying to teach me through it?”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, give me a humble and teachable heart. Help me receive Your correction without anger, pride, or resistance. When Your Word reveals something that needs to change in my life, give me the courage to obey and the wisdom to grow. Keep me from rejecting the correction that is intended for my good, and let my humility bring honor to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
