Test the Spirit

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God.” — 1 John 4:1a NKJV

In a world filled with information, opinions, and technology, John’s command to “test the spirits” is more important than ever. Artificial intelligence can be a powerful tool, but it can also be manipulated to produce religious messages that sound biblical while subtly presenting a false gospel and a different Jesus. AI does not possess spiritual discernment; it produces what it is instructed, trained, or prompted to produce. Therefore, Christians must never allow technology—or any preacher, teacher, book, or online message—to become the final authority for truth. We must compare everything with the Word of God. Paul warned in 2 Corinthians 11:4 about those who proclaim “another Jesus” and “a different gospel,” while Jesus Himself warned that false teachers and deception would arise (Matthew 24:24). The question is not simply, “Does this sound Christian?” but, “Does this agree with Scripture?” We must test every message by the truth of God’s Word, examining whether it rightly declares Jesus Christ as He is revealed in Scripture: the Son of God, Lord, Savior, crucified for our sins, risen from the dead, and the only way of salvation. Technology may assist us, but it must never replace the Holy Spirit, biblical discernment, or the authority of Scripture.

Prayer: Father, give me wisdom and discernment to test every spirit and every message against Your Word. Protect me from deception, false teaching, a false gospel, and any distorted picture of Jesus Christ. Help me recognize truth from error and give me courage to reject anything that contradicts Scripture, even when it sounds convincing. May Your Holy Spirit guide me into truth and keep my eyes fixed upon the true Jesus revealed in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
