Philippians 1:3
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you

Nineteen years ago today marks one day in time I wished I could take back. It was on Saturday, Aug 7 2004, when our lives were changed in a moment, in a flash.

Outside of Fredericksburg, VA on River Road, my dear wife, Deanna, along with 7 of our friends from the Leathernecks MC, were returning home from a benefit ride in Waynesboro. Later that afternoon our group was involved in a terrible vehicle accident when a car lost control and collided with 5 bikes from our group of motorcycles. Such a tragic way to end a beautiful day.

My wife suffered the most serious injuries, traumatically losing her left leg at the scene, when the car slammed into her almost head-on. The injuries she sustained were life threatening. Our friends suffered multiple injuries to inlcude broken bones and severe concussions and were flown out or taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals.

Deanna was air lifted to MCV in Richmond, and was given less than 50% chance of surviving the night. It was also discovered during the emergency exam that she was bleeding internally from a open book fracture of her pelvis. The good doctors and surgeons at MCV worked tirelessly keeping my wife alive. She was stablized and admitted to the MCV's Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU). After nearly 2 months in STICU, and 3 operations later, and by the grace of God, she recovered and was released for physical therapy.

In December of 2004, Deanna was released from Manor Care and arrived to her home, escorted by members of our club and others who were on the 7 August ride. Since she's been home, she has been confined to a wheelchair. Our home has gone through a major renovation, and we all have been forever changed by God through the working power of the Holy Spirit.

Each year that passes is a reminder of that day, as we reflect on our lives and how God has moved us into His loving grace. Life is different and has been different the past 19 years.

Normal is not a word we know or use anymore.

But we are rejoicing today. For without the Lord's help and mercy, we would be lost and utterly hopeless forever. We continue to battle each day, but things are improving by the will and grace of our dear Lord. I rededicated myself back to God, and Deanna, and our children, and grandkids have come to faith in Jesus Christ and are saved.

Be mindful and grateful for the day that the Lord has made. Things can quickly turn without notice. But know the Lord. He can and will save you from far worse things that will yet to come to this world.

Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
