Folly of Self-Righteousness

Aug 21
1 min read

Psalm 49:12

... man, though in honor, does not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.

The ways of the foolish are often marked by pride, self-sufficiency, and the belief that earthly success or personal goodness can secure lasting significance. The self-righteous person may trust in accomplishments, possessions, reputation, or even religious works rather than humbly depending upon God. Scripture warns us that no amount of human honor can overcome our mortality or make us righteous before a holy God. True wisdom is found when we recognize our need for the Lord, turn from pride, and place our confidence in His grace. Let us not live as though we are sufficient in ourselves, but walk humbly with God, remembering that everything we have is temporary, while His truth and salvation endure forever.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, forgive us when pride and self-righteousness cause us to trust in ourselves rather than in You. Help us recognize the foolishness of seeking honor, success, or approval apart from Your will. Give us humble hearts that depend completely upon Your grace and seek to honor You above ourselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
