Warning! Danger Will Robinson!

1 Thessalonians 5:1-3

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

As a young boy growing up as a product of the 1960's, the TV series, "Lost in Space" was one of my childhood favorites. I found it fascinating, and often wondered what it would be like to live on a planet in outer space. The spaceship and all the gadgets of the Robinson's intrigued me. But in all the episodes I watched, there was a scene in each episode that brought a certain time of danger. Alien forces, space monsters, and such entered in and the Robinson family and crew would have to deal with the intruders.

Prior to the climatic event, the robot, a member of the crew, would sense danger ahead. He would go off and sound the alarm saying, "Warning! Danger Will Robinson!" with arms flailing and lights flashing. This would give an early warning sign to the crew that danger is imminent.

As we read the bible with a prophetic viewpoint of the days yet to come, and understand the times we are in, and the outlook for this world, we see that there are going to be difficult days ahead. Jesus took time to warn us about the end of the age. The prophets of old, to include the Apostles Paul and Peter also give us an early warning signal, so that we can identify prophecies of old coming to pass, and prepare us for jolt that is coming to this world before Christ returns.

But as we await His return, we ought to be like the robot (perhaps not as dramatic) to sound the alarm to our families, friends, and neighbors - even those who stand against us, about Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross that saves us and forgives us, so we might be able to escape the wrath of God yet to come.

I believe God has given plenty of warnings through His prophets, Apostles and Christ, throughout history that we ought really pay attention to. The problem is to many people have ignored and still ignore to heed these warnings. They turn a deaf ear and blind eye to the reality of a holy and righteous and just God. They refuse to acknowledge Christ Jesus as the only way to heaven, believing their good works will grant them safety and protection.

I pray you are not one those who think they can wait it out until that terrible day comes. It will not be good at all. Besides, it will be too late. Rather, I am imploring anyone who gives this devotion a glance to consider your fate. Are you saved and secured in your salvation covered by the blood of Jesus, who died by crucifixion, buried and raised from death, who is the Son of God - God in flesh?

Time is of the essence. As with each tick of the clock, we are inching closer to the end. Holding out is not a good option as we don't know when that final tick will happen. It is far better to prepare now and ask Jesus to save you. Listen and pay attention to the warning signs - they are all around you!
