2 Timothy 3:1-5
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"

Paul’s words aren’t merely a prediction—they're a spiritual diagnosis. The characteristics listed are not random; they reflect a world spiraling away from God’s truth. Self-love, pride, greed, rebellion, and spiritual emptiness define this grim portrait. While these traits have existed throughout history, Paul emphasizes that they will become widespread and culturally accepted in the last days, making them especially dangerous.

We see evidence of these "evil days" all around us. The glorification of self, rampant materialism, and moral compromise are prevalent in media, politics, and even within some churches. When Paul speaks of people "having a form of godliness but denying its power," he's pointing to those who may look religious on the surface but lack true transformation by the Holy Spirit. Their religion is ritual without relationship.

But Paul doesn’t stop at diagnosis—he gives us a prescription: "From such people turn away." This doesn’t mean we withdraw from the world entirely, but that we guard our hearts and choose our influences wisely. We’re called to be in the world, not of it. Our mission is to reflect Christ’s character even as the moral climate around us grows darker.

As believers, these verses are both a warning and a call to action. They urge us to remain anchored in truth, walking in love, holiness, and humility. The “evil days” are not just a distant prophecy—they are a present reality. Yet, with faith in Christ, we are equipped not only to endure but to shine as lights in a world desperate for hope.

Blessings in the love of Christ,

Tom
