Missing the Mark

2 min read

Romans 3:23 NKJV

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

The word sin can be understood through the picture of an archer who aims at a target but misses the mark. In the same way, sin is not merely about feeling guilty; it is about our failure to meet God’s perfect standard of holiness and righteousness. No matter how good we believe ourselves to be, how many good deeds we perform, or how sincerely we try, we all fall short of God’s glory. Our sin separates us from a holy God, and we cannot overcome that separation through our own efforts. This is why we desperately need a Savior! Jesus Christ came to do what we could never do for ourselves. Through His sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, and resurrection, He made a way for sinners to be forgiven and reconciled to God. We must recognize our need for Christ, repent of our sins, and place our faith in Him alone. We may all miss the mark, but through Jesus Christ, we can receive the forgiveness and salvation that only God can provide.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, which reminds me that I have fallen short of Your perfect standard. Forgive me for the times I have tried to live by my own strength rather than depend upon Your grace. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to bear my sins and make salvation possible through His sacrifice. Help me to recognize my need for You daily, walk in humility, and live in obedience to Your Word. May my life reflect the grace, love, and righteousness of Jesus Christ. In His precious name I pray, Amen.

Your servant in Christ,

Tom
