Delight in the Lord

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV)
“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
We must be careful what we ask God for because our desires are not always aligned with His will. Psalm 37:4 does not promise that God will grant every wish like a magic genie; rather, as we delight ourselves in Him, He shapes our hearts to desire what pleases Him. James 4:3 warns that we may ask and not receive because we ask with selfish motives, seeking to satisfy our own pleasures. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:8 that our heavenly Father knows what we need before we ask Him, and Philippians 4:19 assures us that God will supply our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. God is a loving Father who knows the difference between what we want and what is truly best for us. Sometimes He answers yes, sometimes no, and sometimes wait—but His wisdom is always greater than ours. Therefore, let us examine our motives, surrender our desires to His will, and trust that His plans are better than our own (Proverbs 3:5–6).
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to delight in You above everything You can give us. Examine our hearts and reveal any selfish motives behind our requests. Teach us to desire what honors You and to trust Your wisdom when Your answer differs from our expectations. Thank You for knowing what we truly need and for loving us enough not to give us everything we want. May our desires be shaped by Your Word and our lives bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Your servant in Christ
Tom
