Matthew 22:20-22
20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.

If you haven't been paying attention to the news lately, we are in the midst of another election cycle. The bashing and rhetoric has already begun. In many ways, it has never stopped since the last election. For whatever reason, and whatever the outcome may be of this next election, like it or not, we will have a president.

If we continue to be governed by the incumbent or a new administration, according to the Constitution and the rule of law, it says the office of President still exists, regardless of political party or affiliation. Therefore we are to render our respect to the office, whether a good or bad person is elected.

For centuries, Israel had to put up with good and bad kings. But the fact is, God never wanted them to have kings, because He was enough. But He relented and let the people choose their kings.

Fast forward a couple of millenia and we have seen our fair share of good and bad presidents. But if we only gauge our nation's successes on the acts of one person, and fail to acknowledge who's really in charge, then we fail collectively - even in the appearance of our successes.

The difference between the U.S. and other nations who elect their leaders, is that we, the people have a voice not only to elect, but to protest the things our elected officials do on our behalf. We, as a nation not only have the right, but the duty to see that our elected officials are held accountable in everything they say and do on our behalf.

This is especially true when it comes to Godly virtues and precepts. For there is but One God, One Lord, and One King who governs the whole universe, including this speck of a planet in the vastness of His expanse.

God is the one who sets up kings and takes them down. For whoever He places in the highest office of this land, is done by Him. But He is still King and Lord of all.

Daniel 2:21 "And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding."

Jesus showed those who questioned Him about His loyalty, that we are all subject to render to some Caesar in our life. But we are to always remember that our true allegiance and loyalty, and moreover, our obedience, belong to Him and Him alone.

Your servant in Christ,

Tom
